The town of Sheringham comprises Lower Sheringham, a fishing village, and Upper Sheringham. It was joined to the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line in the late 19th century. It has a particularly interesting variety of flint buildings, not a traditional Norfolk property style. The railway line between Cromer and Norwich is known as the Bittern Line. The North Norfolk Railway running from Sheringham station to Holt, has been preserved as "The Poppy Line".
